Emphasis

The ReVision Florida emphasis had its genesis in the work of the Imagine If . . . Great Commission Resurgence Taskforce which had been authorized by the messengers to the 2009 Florida Baptist State Convention annual meeting. That taskforce was charged to bring a report and recommendation to the 2010 State Convention concerning how Florida Baptists can work more effectively and more efficiently together in following Christ in fulfilling the Great Commission.

The taskforce’s first of six recommendations dealt with Spiritual and Leadership Renewal. The group said, “The pastor of each congregation must personally lead his congregation toward a new level of commitment to accomplishing the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) and the practices of spiritual maturity, prayer, evangelism, discipleship, missions, sacrificial stewardship, Cooperative Program giving, church planting, and developing believers,” among other tasks.

All of the taskforce’s six recommendations were referred to the State Board of Missions for review and implementation. The Board appointed six special workgroups – one for each of the Taskforce’s recommendations.

The Board’s Special Workgroup #1 reported that they concluded that their assigned responsibility was three fold:
(1) To call out every Florida Baptist to step it up dramatically to see the Great Commission fulfilled;
(2) To simplify, codify, and clarify the message of the “Imagine If Great Commission Taskforce; and
(3) To implement a strategic state-wide communication campaign that informs, inspires involves, and invites every Florida Baptist to join in this movement.

The “Imagine If” Taskforce made this shocking statement: “As important as the following recommendations are, the task force is convinced that genuine Great Commission resurgence is dependent upon and must begin in each individual believer and each Florida Baptist congregation.” Then they amplified their conviction and stated: “Revival and renewal are needed. Without these, the other recommendations will never materialize. With these, resurgence has already begun.”
